Seeking Water Balance in Agriculture
Proyect Type:
- Laja River Watershed | Guanajuato | Mexico
This project addresses the high water demand of agriculture, which consumes 84% of the annual water allocation, focusing on three actions to improve irrigation efficiency and achieve significant water savings:
Land Leveling: Optimizing the landscape to reduce water wastage during irrigation.
Technical Assistance: Providing small-scale farmers with knowledge and tools to enhance water use efficiency.
Support and Monitoring: Offering continuous guidance for producers to ensure sustainable water management practices. This eight-year project will impact 50 hectares, with an estimated volumetric benefit of over 196,000 cubic meters per year.
Estimated Volumetric Benefit: 1,575,000 m³ for the total project (Water Demand Reduction Measures in Agriculture * WRI Methodology).
